Sustainable Village is a volunteer-based non-governmental organisation founded in Cambodia in 2004.  The Kingdom of Cambodia is a country in South East Asia, with a population of l5 million people.  Despite recent progress, many in Cambodian continue to suffer from poverty. The effect of decades of civil war, internal strife and rampant corruption contributes to this. Many in rural areas of the country, where we work, only need a helping hand to dramatically improve their standard of living.

Our families lack choices because their daily incomes can only provide for their day to day needs. This  makes them vulnerable to unforeseen problems associated with unclean drinking water, lack of electricity and sanitation. This causes health problems. There is also lack of quality education in the community. This prevents upward social mobility for the next generations. By reducing money that households have to spend on education and water they can use their small incomes for improving their opportunities (eg. fixing houses, healthcare). Teaching children important skills and building wells is one step in that direction. With community cooperation in these projects we ensure that families are happy with our work. And with the families doing most of the work we can do it economically and sustainably at the same time.
